La Camargue, vaste zone humide située dans le delta du Rhône, est une région exceptionnelle : richesse biologique, diversité de la faune et de la flore, variété des paysages, grandeur et histoire de la culture provençale… Des plages de sable aux roselières, des rizières aux champs de blé, des marais salants à la Grande Bleue, le Parc naturel régional de Camargue offre aux visiteurs de multiples visages.

Née de la lutte entre le Rhône et la mer Méditerranée, la Camargue est, du point de vue biologique, l’une des régions les plus riches de l’Europe occidentale. Située dans l’axe de migration des oiseaux du nord de l’Europe vers l’Afrique, la Camargue constitue une halte migratoire majeure. Elle abrite aussi l’unique lieu de nidification en France de flamants roses, son emblème mondialement connu. Flamants roses mais aussi taureaux, chevaux, petits ducs, goélands railleurs, hirondelles de mer, hérons, castors, échasses… une multitude d’espèces d’animaux et d’oiseaux vit sur ce territoire exceptionnel.

Terre magique de contrastes, la Camargue est belle et changeante, elle vous dévoilera différemment ses mille et une facettes selon l’heure de la journée et la saison et vous réservera toujours des surprises. Etang du Tampan - phare de la Gacholle

The Gacholle Lighthouse, built in 1882, was automated in 1967. Partially destroyed during the World War II, it was restored in 1947. The buildings are now used by the Camargue National Reserve.

The Tour du Valat biological station

The Tour du Valat Biology Station was created in 1954 by Luc Hoffmann. An independent organisation, the Tour du Valat was declared a non-profit foundation in 1976. Its purpose is to promote and contribute directly to the conservation of the Mediterranean wetlands.

Capelière - National Nature Protection Society - Camargue national reserve

Tour Saint Louis

Eglise des Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

This fortress church, built in the 9th and 11th centuries on an old Gallo-Roman sanctuary, replaced an oratory that, according to legend, was erected by the Saints. This site was fortified in order to withstand attacks by the Saracens.
