… Among the landscapes of Auguste Chabaud

At the foot of La Montagnette, this 'Provençal Palestine', follow in the footsteps of Auguste Chabaud and experience the charm of this welcoming village. Graveson is very rural and will give you a warm Mediterranean welcome. As you share in its festivals and traditions, such as the carreto ramado of Saint-Eloi and its art de vivre, you will be plunged into the heart of an authentic and welcoming Provence. Graveson will awaken your senses with its farmers' market, Museum of Aromas and Perfume, gardens and other botanic sites. The landscapes in this region have been enhanced by Auguste Chabaud, Fauvist painter, Expressionist and contemporary of Matisse and Derain. You can discover his work at the Auguste Chabaud Regional Museum. Allow the 'Provence Prestige Paths' to guide you in pictorial art and meet the many artists living here, who will present their work to you. Visit La Montagnette like the great painter did and admire the exceptionally beautiful landscapes. The town offers a variety of approved accommodation, many different restaurants and a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. Come and experience a wave of calm, tranquillity and fresh air along the Cours in Graveson, in the heart of an original Provence and Provence Pays d'Arles, the land of its founding fathers.

Designed as a transition between the Montagnette hills and the village of Graveson, it combines relaxation (maze games area for children), animation (round and spacious entrance to accommodate shows) and four parts representing the four seasons where you can stroll or rest. The groves and flowerbeds host rare varieties of local plants to highlight the qualities of each. The alleyways, the perspective, the colour of the flowerbeds and the plant collections offer something for everyone's taste. A national viburnum collection is being created.

At Graveson lies a magical place born from the imagination of a man fascinated by water and plants. Mr Stroppiana, in his spare time, imagined and built his garden with ponds, waterfalls, plants and fish. The calm and serenity that exudes this place evokes relaxation when strolling along the water points. Visitors will appreciate the harmony of the flora and fauna of the different basins. You will observe the colourful koi carp, a magnificent collection of water lilies and many exotic plants. During periods of closure, visits are by reservation only. Animals are not allowed.

The majority of Notre Dame de Septembre Church was rebuilt in 1848, based on an 11th century church (1198). It has a rather distinctive history, as only its chancel, a regional Historic Monument, is of Romanesque origin. . Don't forget to look upwards and admire the Romanesque cupola. And take the time to look at the 17th and 18th century paintings.

Placed at the entrance to villages, on squares and at crossroads, crosses were seen daily by field workers and travellers, merchants and soldiers, who all hoped to receive protection and favours from them. They were objects of respect and received many visitors, who maintained them and decorated them with flowers. Even the most remote crosses were visited annually by parishioners during the fondly remembered 'Rogation' processions.

The first mention of bull-racing in Graveson was in July 1800. An enclosure surrounded by walls, partly within the courtyard of a privately-owned 18th century Mas, can be seen on the 1830 cadastral register. This enclosure is at the origin of the current amphitheatres. The amphitheatres have been renovated several times and were still private property in 1994. They were then managed by the Club Turin and maintained by the town hall, which took over their ownership shortly afterwards. Architectural description
