The Maison de la Chasse et de la Nature opened its doors in September 2008. This museum aims to introduce the public to the art of hunting and the natural wealth of La Crau, Camargue and the Alpilles. The Maison de la Chasse et de la Nature is the result of a two-fold ambition. In addition to discovering the region's natural heritage, different nature-lovers can come together with the common objective of preservation. In the heart of this old centre located in a house made of exposed stonework, the Museum of Agricultural Tools recounts the development of agriculture in our region thanks to irrigation. Visitors can discover a varied collection of restored old tools used for growing cereals, vines and vegetables, some of them from the 19th century. These tools, made of iron and wood, were extensions of the hands of the women and men who got the best out of the earth.

The poet Frédéric Mistral (1830-1914) lived in Maillane, where he composed all his work; in 1904 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He was also the founder of the Félibrige association. The house where he lived from 1876 until his death on 25 March 1914 has retained the authentic look of Mistral's time, thanks to restoration work carried out from 1992 to 1995 by the Historic Monuments service. The house became a museum in 1944, following the death of Mme Mistral in 1943.
