The remains of this imposing testimony to ancient engineering were identified and excavated by Fernand Benoît in the immediate post-war period. Until then, they had been interpreted as either a retention pond, part of the hydraulic network taking water from the Alpilles to Arles, or as a fulling mill.

The four mills of Fontvieille The Moulin Sourdon, more commonly called 'the fallen mill' because it was the first to lose its capital and sails, is the doyen of the four. It was built in 1791 and was operational in the 18th and 19th centuries. Set apart from the others, standing alone on a hill to the west of the Allée des Pins, the Moulin Sourdon has been abandoned by tourists and villagers alike; its location offers magnificent views of the western part of the village. It was last restored in 1958.

Built in 1814, the Saint Pierre Windmill ground wheat for a century until 1915. In 1935, the Society of Friends of Daudet's Windmill decided to turn it into a museum dedicated to Alphonse Daudet and containing the poet's works. This windmill has been visible from the outside since 2012, but the inside cannot be visited as it has been closed by its owner.

This mill was built in 1627 in La Loube, to the north of the village, and supplied the village with flour. It had several successive owners, before once again becoming the property of the commune in the 19th century. It operated until the middle of that century, but only on four days a week; on the other days, the water was reserved for watering gardens. After the death of the last tenants in 1985, the mill was destroyed following a decision by the municipal council. All that remains today is the paddle wheel, which is in good condition.
