In a Royal Order of 10 August 1825, Charles X approved the Municipal Council's decision to acquire land and a church formerly belonging to the Dominicans (15th century) for the creation of a theatre. In 1925, Tarascon, which had 12,000 inhabitants and had been a sub-prefecture for 15 years, chose a disused church near Porte Saint-Jean.

In 1990, it was installed in the former Maison Blain - the home of a dynasty of seed-merchants, an extremely important trade in the commune's economic history - and to mark the occasion it was given the name of the Provençal writer Joseph Roumanille (1818-1891). With approximately 40,000 documents, Joseph-Roumanille municipal library has two complementary functions. Promoting public reading

Our great bartenders, experts in the art of slightly frothy draught beer, will give you a warm welcome and do their best to ensure you do not miss a minute of the concert! Although the configuration of Cargo is based mainly on standing room, you can find a few seats if you arrive early.

The Hôtel Quiqueran de Beaujeu testifies to the history of Arles in more than one respect. It is a vestige of a period of prosperity in the town, during which rich bourgeois and nobles made their mark by constructing their sumptuous private mansions. The building bears witness to the majesty and charm of Classical architecture inspired by Parisian mansions. Its name evokes a powerful old Arles family, which provided a number of public figures and had a profound effect on the history of the town.

Jeanne de Quiqueran, Lady of Les Baux, was the wife of Honoré des Martins, governor of Les Baux de Provence and successor of Montmorency. Together with her sister, she built Quiqueran hospital between 1542 and 1583 in the upper part of town, near the old Saint Blaise Chapel. The hospital cared for ordinary patients, while Saint-André hospital, in the Valley, was transformed into a leprosarium. It was later renamed 'Hôtel Dieu et Charité des Baux' and remained open until 1787. It is a beautiful building with a remarkable colonnade on the first floor.

It was constructed in 1365 by Cardinal Grimoard, brother of Pope Urban V, and is 28 m high and 10 m wide. It remains a great testimony to the mediaeval period; it was restored in the 18th century. The Anglica Tower, with its turrets, was sung about by Mistral in Les Iscles d'Or. To its left, the 15th century Porte du Séquier marked the boundary of the village. The Tower was listed as a national Historic Monument in 1925. Site closed to the public.

Some rooms around the cloister, such as the chapter, have a 17th century vault. It is still possible to take part in community services. St Michel church, where most services take place, is a place of silence, prayer and personal adoration.

The L'Hauture district is the highest part of the town (altitude of 25 metres), the only rocky knoll on the surrounding alluvial plain. It was a major base for the urbanisation of the Roman colony and the current district still contains the remains of some of its structures, particularly the amphitheatre, theatre and ramparts. Furthermore, the remains of the first cathedral complex have been revealed on the south-east corner of the district.

Frédéric Mistral was photographed several times in front of this cross, which is opposite the poet's house; as a result, it became known as 'La Croix du Poète' (The Cross of the Poet).
