    Orgon is a showplace of Provencal paleontology and geology. The village of Orgon is part of these rare sites of share the world which conceals an internationally recognized facies. The chalky limestone layers are flush conceal specific and characteristic fossils to the origin of the definition of the urgonian floor, from the latin name of Orgon, by one of the founders of paleontology, of Alcide d'Orbigny in 1850.These lands belong to the early Cretaceous. These are carbonate marine sediments that were deposited between 120 and 110 million years.

    The former Saint Louis Chapel, called a Church, was located near the Rhône; it was demolished in 1874 during the extension of the river banks. A building belonging to the Saint-Louis-du-Rhône company was used as a church before the construction of the current building. The church was built without a bell tower in 1907. The bell tower was built by the architect Daniel Collonge in 1996. The painted décors on the bell tower, dated 1997, were created by Jacqueline Chaudet.     The Croix Roumieu is a veritable monument commemorating the journey of a parishioner who brought the relic of Saint Symphorian back from Rome in 1610. The Provençal word 'Roumieu' means pilgrim, hence its name. There are a total of 13 crosses in the commune of Eyragues, in addition to the Croix Roumieu.

    This cross succeeded two earlier mission crosses, the first of which was erected in 1740 and the second thirty years later. It was destroyed during the Revolution and restored in 1824. Frédéric Mistral was photographed several times in front of this cross, which is opposite the poet's house; as a result, it became known as 'La Croix du Poète' (The Cross of the Poet).

    Behind its 19th century façade, Saint Denis parish church conceals a great Romanesque nave and a beautiful Gothic chancel. In the side-naves, woodwork and paintings by Mignard adorn the different altars of the rural brotherhoods. The eyes are drawn to the bell tower, which was originally a 'watch tower'.     Date: 12th and 15th centuries Era: Middle Ages Type: Religious architecture Status: Property of the Town of Arles and listed as a national Historic Monument in 1840 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in1981 The Christian community of Arles was one of the first in Gaul, with the presence of a Bishop documented in 254. Furthermore, for a while Arles Cathedral had the status of Primatial Church of the Gauls and remained the site of an Archbishopric until the Revolution. It is currently a parish church.

    This 18th century building is located on the site of a mediaeval chapel of the same name, which was facing ruin and also too small. In 1740, the construction of a new church was entrusted to the Tarascon master builder Antoine Damour, according to plans by the architect Jean-Baptiste Franque, who created the arch system. The Classical-style façade is made from Beaucaire stone. Architectural description:

    This old 12th century seigniorial house was extended in the 16th century. It is listed as a national Historic Monument, like Notre Dame de Grace Church. Private property. The façade has been completely restored and the inside transformed into private apartments.

  • Faraman lighthouse - Heritage

    This lighthouse is in the form of a tapered tower which stands 46.5 metres above sea-level. It is one of the highest Mediterranean lighthouses. It is a stone construction, widened at the base and with a corbel at the top. In 1934, the smooth masonry was painted with six alternating horizontal black and white stripes. It was restored between 1947 and 1950, due to damage suffered in the Second World War. In 1972, it received a wind turbine and was automated.
