It took several years, an incalculable number of hours' work, a great deal of patience, meticulousness, precision and above all an unconditional love of Provence to create this magnificent Provençal nativity scene. It is more than a nativity scene, it is a summary of the heritage of the most aromatic region in France, the region of Etienne Gaillardet, the creator of this magical place located in La Crau de Châteaurenard (13).

The Retro Museum is entirely dedicated to the reproduction of scenes from everyday life in the past. This nostalgic world can be accessed via the entrance to the La Crau Ecomuseum. André Avis is an enthusiastic collector. In 1987, in partnership with the Municipality, he decided to open a museum on the theme of old professions and tools. The museum has changed name since then, but its vocation remains the same, namely to preserve and pass on the memory of the Ancients to adults and primarily to children.

In her studio-gallery in Les Baux de Provence, the artist Marie-Hélène Sola presents 'Fragmentism', the pictorial movement she founded in the early 1990s. A descendent of Cubism, a synthesis of two worlds - abstract and figurative - a dialogue emerging from the use of form and colour, 'Fragmentism' gathers up movement in space that goes beyond the dimensions of the canvas. Sola has chosen to transfer the visitor's attention in order to provide an understanding of an entire composition and its characteristics.

The chapel is at the entrance to the Château des Baux de Provence. Although it was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it has been dedicated to Saint Catherine since the 15th century. The castle chapel was within the surrounding walls which symbolically protect the entrance to the Château, as was common in the Middle Ages. The building set vertically to the small ditch, remains of which can still be seen, was part of the Château; on the first level, that of the courtyard, it housed the castle chapel. The gaps in the cliff reveal the existence of two levels above the chapel.

The imposing fortress of Tarascon stands like a sentinel overlooking the waters of the Rhône. During the Middle Ages, the château was located on the border of the County of Provence, opposite Beaucaire and French territory, and gave the impression of defence. Louis II, Duke of Anjou and Count of Provence, began the construction of the château in 1400. The work was continued by Louis III, then René I. The fortress was eclipsed by the Renaissance palace during the reign of 'Good King René'.

Rebuilt at the end of the 17th century on the site of an old fortress destroyed by the residents of Les Baux, the château and its chapel did not go by the name of d'Estoublon until the 18th century. The estate, which covers 200 hectares, as well as its wine-growing and oil-producing operations, was restored around ten years ago by the Schneider family. A milestone testifying to the passage of the old Via Aurelia was found in the château grounds. The Via Aurelia connected the Rhône from Tarascon, to Rome, via Aix and then the Col de la Turbie in Alpes Maritimes.
