The old village had three churches: Saint-André in the La Fontaine Valley, the first parish church, abandoned in 1481 and since disappeared; Notre Dame du Château or Sainte-Catherine Chapel (12th-16th centuries), the castle chapel in the citadel enclosure, and Saint-Vincent Church, the former priory which depended on Saint-Paul de Mausole in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. To the right of the portal, hidden behind a pillar, the Provençal poet Frédéric Mistral is said to have engraved his name in the stone, together with the name of his home village of Maillane.

Built in 1909, this fountain pays tribute to the River Durance which flows to the north of Châteaurenard. Its inscription, 'Eici, l’aigo es d’or' (Here, water is gold) reveals the importance of this river, not only for the Châteaurenard region, but also for a large part of the Pays d'Arles. Its canalisation and distribution throughout the territory by means of a hydraulic network of small streams and canals allowed a flourishing fruit and vegetable production industry to develop on this arid or marshy land.

The first known mention of the existence of Saint Peyre d'Entremonts Priory dates back to 1213. However, it was constructed before this date. The remains of the buildings are currently being restored; the 'Apier ou le Mur a des Oreilles' Association is organising volunteers to work on the site. The first job was to clear the site of the vegetation and scree that had invaded it and made it inaccessible, then the walls will gradually be rebuilt.

This Place, in the heart of town, has always symbolised meetings and exchanges. In Antiquity the square was next to the main forum (late 1st century BC), and the economic and political centre of the Roman administration; in the Middle Ages it became the main centre for commercial transactions. It is now known as one of the most social areas in town. Locals and tourists rub shoulders under the patronage of a number of well-known figures such as Vincent Van Gogh and Frédéric Mistral.
