Here, in 1886, in the first years of the prosperity of Port-Saint-Louis, Cessieux institutions built their first shed. The timber, arrival in much of North Africa, was discharged by a cosmopolitan population of dockers who lived in this suburb. 3 500 tonnes were easily stored.

Opposite the majestic façade of the Hôtel de Manville was a large residence dated 1571 (known as the Logis de Brisson-Peyre); all that remains is a muntin window whose entablature bears the Calvinist inscription 'Post Tenebras Lux 1571' (Light After Darkness). This affirmation of Protestant faith suggests the existence of an oratory of reformed worship. The reformed religion had many supporters in Les Baux, thanks to the tolerance of the then Baron of Les Baux, Honoré des Martins.

This is a very attractive Oratory in the centre of Les Paluds de Noves. The Oratory was dedicated as a votive offering to Saint Roch, patron saint of plague victims; a traditional festival held on the first Sunday of September is dedicated to this saint. On this occasion, a 'carreto ramado' ('rowed chariot' in Provençal) parades through the hamlet of Les Paluds de Noves.

Placed at the entrance to villages, on squares and at crossroads, crosses were seen daily by field workers and travellers, merchants and soldiers, who all hoped to receive protection and favours from them. They were objects of respect and received many visitors, who maintained them and decorated them with flowers. Even the most remote crosses were visited annually by parishioners during the fondly remembered 'Rogation' processions.

Saint Pierre-ès-Liens, the commune's parish church, is built in the Classical style. Construction began in 1695, as the former Saint Pierre-ès-Liens parish church had become too small to accommodate the villagers due to the growth of the village (growth due in part to the operation of the quarries from the 15th century).

The former private mansion of the Gras de Preigne family has housed the Court House since 1858. Constructed in the Renaissance style in the early 17th century, it was redeveloped slightly later 'in the French style' or 'in the Parisian style', with U-shaped main buildings built around a main courtyard (Place du Bâtonnier Louis Gonthier). Behind this, the current entrance to the Court House overlooking the Place du Docteur Braye has a 1620s Mannerist-style façade.

Private property; can only be seen from outside. Known under the name Notre Dame de Piargue, this chapel was built by the side of the old Via Aurelia. Although Notre Dame de Piargue is of modest architectural beauty, it faces an exceptional landscape; opposite its old walls lie the magnificent Alpilles, which inspire visitors to stop and admire one of the most harmonious views in this corner of Provence.

Everything in the town evokes the memory of the great Provençal poet. The Mas du Juge, where Mistral was born in 1830, is in Maillane. This 18th century building, which entered the possession of the Mistral family in 1803, had a permanent effect on the poet's soul. It was here that he spent 25 years of his life and found the inspiration for 'Miréio', which he started to write within its walls. Since Mistral's time and despite the passing of the years, the dining room in the Mas is still in almost its original condition. Room and museum open to visitors.
